
Tucson Museum of Art: A Perfect Destination for Art Enthusiasts
The Tucson Museum of Art is located in downtown Tucson. The Historic Block along with the Art Museum traces the contribution of art in various aspects of life. The are 5 buildings in the Historic Block namely, The Romero House, La Casa Cordova, Stevens/Duffield House, the J. Knox Corbett House and the Edward Nye Fish House. Apart from these, the property also constitutes of an art school and research library.
Admission fees for adults are $8, for students - $3 and for seniors - $6. You can visit the museum for free if you come on the first Sunday of every month. The operation hours of the museum are from 10-5 throughout the week except Mondays. During Sundays, it is between 12 and 5pm. The museum displays a vast collection of art works belonging to different countries and different eras. The Art of Latin America section includes over 1900 specimens of Spanish, Mexican and Native American art works. The highlights include Feline Head Fragment and Stela of Central Mexico belonging to 250 BC.
Art of the American West is dedicated to specimens belonging to Euro American tradition of art. The Modern and Contemporary Art section comprises masterpieces from the modern era starting from 1970s. Works of eminent artists like Marino Marini, Arthur Dove, Marsden Hartley and Max Weber are included in the collection. The library consists of rare books on art and architecture donated by generous art connoisseurs. Exhibitions are held in the Tucson Museum of Art from time to time. Some upcoming exhibitions include Tom Philabaum: Precarious Rocks, Imaginary Dioramas by Judy Miller and Approved Images by Lawrence Gipe.
