This museum is often referred to as the Air Force Facility Missile Site8 and TitanII ICBM Site571-7. It is governed by Arizona Aerospace Foundation which is a non profit establishment. The most interesting part of this museum is the actual Titan I missile which is still placed in its silo. Looking at the missile you will feel as if air Force has marched away just a day or two ago because the control room, crew quarters and everything else of the site looks same as it used to be when it was operational.
The basic tour is quite exciting. It gives you the opportunity to have a look at missile silo. You can also catch glimpses of associated control vehicles and containers meant for fuel storage. The door of the missile silo is blocked in its partly opened position. This will allow you to have a glance of the interior. The open part is covered with plexiglass. It seems as if the door was kept half opened keeping the interests of the tourists in mind.
Besides the tour above the ground, there are also underground tours of varied durations. There are also behind the scene special tours along with extended tours. It is always advisable to have a prior reservation before going for the special and extended tours. This museum was also declared as the National Historic Landmark in the year 1994 and many sequences of the movie Star Trek: First Contact was shot at this site.
Never forget to add Titan Missile Museum, while picking the must visits of Tucson, otherwise your travel in Tucson Arizona will remain incomplete.
