El Con Mall was established as an enclosed shopping facility in the year 1960. It is necessarily the oldest of it kind in Tucson, Arizona. The anchor stores are J.C. Penney, Target, Ross Dress For Less, The Home Depot and Burlington Coat Factory. The place that was occupied by Macy's is vacant since 2008.

The El Con Mall is referred to as a Dead Mall sine for most parts it is vacant. Besides the 5 anchor stores lights could be seen only in the multiplex and six other retail stores. It is because of this low occupancy that the government decided to demolish the mall and transform into an open air facility.

Located I the middle of the city the El Con Mall is both a shopping facility and an attraction. The stores that operate present the best experience of southwestern charm and hospitality. The mall is open on all weekdays from 10.00 am to 9.00 pm. On Sundays the mall opens up at 12.00 noon closes at 5.00 pm. It is completely closed on Christmas, Easter Sunday and Thanksgiving Day.

With plenty of parking facility and a variety of new specialty shops the El Con Mall is gradually regaining the charm it once had. Stores like the Burlington coat factory which had once stopped operation are opening up once again. In fact the Coat factory starts sale from the 5th day of March, 2010.
