Sabino Canyon Tucson: Welcome to the Amazing World of Natural Beauty
The Sabino Canyon is a beautiful canyon that was formed more than 12 million years ago. The magic happened with the forming of Santa Catalina Mountains. The Native American's Hohokams were the first occupants of the region. Plants that you see today at the canyon were first seen around 6 to 8 thousand years ago.
In the year 1887 a massive earthquake hit northern Mexico dislodging boulders that were lining the walls of the canyon. This then came and rested below in the valley. A dam and 9 bridges were built over the creek during the period of the Great Depression. This was done so that a road could be built to Mount Lemmon to the very top. The road never got completed as the terrain was very steep where the canyon ends although it did go for around 3 miles right into the canyon.
The beauty of this place can be experienced best when taking a tram ride. This natural desert oasis is in the heart of the Coronado National Forest in Tucson. Wildlife at it's very best along with he most amazing desert landscapes can be seen here. A narrated 45 minutes 3.8 mile tour is a complete learning experience and the non-narrated 2 mile tour to the 7 falls is divine.
Although the Sabino Canyon region is home to wildlife and is in a forest there are plenty of top class accommodation facilities, places to eat and entertain yourself very close to it. So get to the Sabino Canyon, see and experience nature at its best.
