Choose One Tucson Arizona Newspaper: Getting to Know Local News and Event
There are several newspapers in Tucson that are renowned for their excellent and accurate reporting, great editorial pieces and mind-blowing photography, among others. One of the oldest newspapers in the city is the Tucson Citizen.
Founded in 1870, by Richard McCormick, it started off as a weekly newspaper and was known as The Tucson Weekly Citizen. It was much later that the newspaper became a daily and was known as the Tucson Citizen.
Currently, the newspaper has a circulation of over 17,000 and is owned by the Gannett Company which is one of the largest newspaper publishing groups in the United States. The group publishes over 85 daily newspapers in the country, including the most popular national daily USA TODAY, as well as other popular dailies such as The Indianapolis Star, The Arizona Republic and Detroit Free Press, among others.
The Citizen had won several appreciations for local news reporting, especially in the areas of breaking regional news, education and campus information, business, sports, classified, photography and editorial.
The newspaper also sponsors a number of city based events. Events generate a lot of revenue for the newspaper. Besides, the newspaper has a blogging section covering mostly political blogs along with a blog aggregator.
The economic recession that affected every industry segment including media, had an adverse impact on the newspaper. A number of newspaper staff was forced to leave their jobs. It also had to cease its publication. However, although the print edition suffered, the online edition of the newspaper was very much alive.
